How to use primaquine?
Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once a day. Take it with food to prevent stomach upset. Follow your doctor's instructions exactly. Primaquine is usually taken for 2 weeks after you leave the malaria area. It is started during the last 1 to 2 weeks of your other malaria treatments, or immediately after you have finished your other treatments. Primaquine should not be used to treat malaria for more than 14 days.
The dose depends on the type of infection you have and how you respond to treatment. Take this medicine regularly. To help you remember, take it at the same time every day.
It is very important to continue taking this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more or less of the medicine than prescribed. Even if you feel better, do not stop taking it until you have finished your treatment, unless your doctor instructs you to do so. Skipping or changing doses without your doctor's approval may make the prevention/treatment ineffective, lead to an increase in the parasite population, make the infection more difficult to treat (drug-resistant), or worsen side effects.
